The Beaconstory
From a community of enthusiasts to an editorial project dedicated to space, tech and geek culture.
Beacon is, above all, a human and community story.
A story born among Star Citizen enthusiasts who gradually wanted to create a space where players, creators, tech lovers and science-fiction fans could meet.
Over the years, Beacon has evolved.

From meetups to events, from events to a community, and from a community to a media outlet.
2018The first sparks
The story begins around Star Citizen and the wish to bring enthusiasts together in the real world.
Commander Fran, together with Fred, Acta and Lisalys, helps create the first meetups that will gradually give birth to the Beacon identity.
The idea is simple: bring enthusiasts together around a shared universe and create a real meeting place for players and members of the community.
2019The first Bar Citizen in Liège
The first meetups gradually grow bigger.
The Bar Citizen in Liège lets the community meet regularly and shows that real momentum is building around the project.
Beacon then starts to become more than a simple gathering of players.
2020A growing community
The meetups continue and bring together more and more participants.
The team starts to imagine something more ambitious.
Why not create a real event bringing several universes together: video games, simulation, science fiction, technology and geek culture?
The idea of a big convention starts to take shape.
2021Beacon Events is born
A new milestone is reached with the official creation of Beacon Events.
The association becomes the structure that develops future projects and carries Beacon's ambition.
The goal is now clearly defined:
Create events where communities, creators and enthusiasts can meet around video games, technology, science fiction and space exploration.
2022The first BE@CON
After several years of preparation, Beacon reaches a new milestone with the first BE@CON.
The event goes beyond Star Citizen and offers an experience bringing together video games, simulation, science fiction, technology and geek culture.
The first edition welcomes around 1,000 visitors.
Beacon proves that a project born from a community of enthusiasts can become a real event open to the public.
2023A new force joins the adventure
2023 marks the arrival of David Amadieu, aka JakeCook, in the Beacon adventure.
His arrival answers a concrete goal: helping to prepare and organise BE@CON 2024.
Drawing on his experience in photography, graphic design, communication and digital creation, David gradually contributes to the visual identity, the communication and various organisational aspects of the project.
Beacon keeps growing and prepares a much more ambitious new edition.
2024BE@CON 2024
BE@CON 2024 is another important milestone in Beacon's history.
The event changes scale and brings together communities, partners, creators and visitors around several universes: Star Citizen, video games, simulation, science fiction, technology and geek culture.
Organising and preparing this edition also helps Beacon develop its partnerships, its communication and its identity further.
But behind the event, a community has now been built.
Beacon is no longer just a convention.
Beacon has become a universe of its own.
2025The end of a cycle
2025 marks a particularly difficult period for Beacon.
Despite the ambitions and the work invested, Beacon Events has to end its activities and close its non-profit organisation (ASBL).
This decision comes amid political, institutional and organisational difficulties, and without the support that was expected for the project to keep developing as planned.
The consequences are significant: event projects are put on hold, and Beacon Mag, then planned as an extension of Beacon Events, cannot continue in this first form.
For a while, Beacon's future becomes uncertain.
But one thing remains:
its story, its identity, its name and, above all, its community.
Closing the non-profit therefore doesn't necessarily mean the end of Beacon.
It marks the end of a model.
2026Saving Beacon, giving it a second life
In 2026, David / JakeCook decides to pick up the torch and give the project a new life.
Rather than letting several years of work, identity, content and community disappear, he sets out to rebuild Beacon around a new model.
That is how Beacon Mag is born.
This time, the project is designed from the start as an independent editorial structure, with a different ambition:
Preserve the spirit of Beacon while allowing it to evolve.
Beacon Mag becomes a media outlet dedicated to the universes that have always been at the heart of the project:
- 🚀 Space exploration and aerospace
- 🎮 Video games
- 🛰️ Star Citizen and space opera
- 🤖 Artificial intelligence
- 💻 Technology
- 🧪 Science and innovation
- 🎬 Science fiction
- 🎨 Geek culture and digital creation
The goal is now to keep Beacon alive all year round, not just during an event.
2027Rebuilding and preparing the future
2027 is the next step in this rebuilding.
Beacon Mag aims to gradually grow its editorial team, its content, its partnerships and its community.
The project may also reconnect with what made Beacon's history: meetups and events.
In time, partner events, community meetups, exclusive experiences and new event projects may find their place again in the Beacon ecosystem.
Media and events will then be able to work together:
the media to keep Beacon alive all year round,
the events to bring the community together in the real world.
A new life for Beacon
Beacon started with a handful of enthusiasts.
It grew thanks to a community.
It went through meetups, events, successes, hardships and, finally, the end of a first cycle.
But the story doesn't stop with the closing of Beacon Events.
In 2026, Beacon Mag was created with a simple goal: not to let what had been built disappear.
Preserve the identity. Preserve the community. Preserve the memories. And above all, keep building.
The first stones were laid by Commander Fran, Fred, Acta and Lisalys.
In 2023, David / JakeCook joined the adventure to help prepare BE@CON 2024.
In 2026, he decided to take the project over in a new form and create Beacon Mag, to give Beacon a second life and prepare its future.
A new form. A new generation. The same light.
The story continues.
