No Moon landing just yet. Artemis III will stay in low Earth orbit in 2027. Four astronauts, three Americans and ESA’s Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano, will test Orion’s rendezvous and docking with the SpaceX and Blue Origin lunar landers. They will also test Axiom’s AxEMU spacesuits and an improved heat shield on the way back.
The first landing therefore moves to Artemis IV, with a target set for 2028. To find out more, tune in on Friday 23 October: NASA will hold a press conference at Kennedy Space Center with its administrator Jared Isaacman.
