Hold a station aboard a big ship: manage power, repair components, put out fires.

On large ships, the engineer is the heart of the crew. They split power between shields, weapons and engines, swap blown fuses, repair damaged components and get fires under control. A good engineer keeps the ship alive much longer in combat.

Engineering does not earn money on its own: it makes the group’s activities succeed (combat, hauling, MOLE mining). It is the multicrew activity par excellence.

  • Light armour to move fast aboard

🧭 Steps

  1. Take your station : Go to the engine room and the ship’s engineering screen.
  2. Manage power : Favour shields in combat and engines in flight, as the crew needs.

💡 Advanced tips

  • Know your ship’s layout by heart

  • Cut power to unused systems to boost others
  • Practise outside combat

⚠️ Common mistakes

  • Letting a fire spread
  • Forgetting to watch fuses
  • Putting everything into weapons and neglecting shields
  • Not talking to the pilot

☠️ Risks

  • Fires and oxygen loss aboard
  • Components failing mid-fight
  • Poorly coordinated crew
  • Ship destroyed if repairs are late

💰 Profitability

No direct earnings: an engineer’s value is measured by the success and survival of the whole group.

❓ FAQ

Does engineering pay?
Not directly: it makes group missions succeed, and those pay.

Which ship to practise?
A Constellation Taurus or a Carrack: big, with a real engine room.

Do I need many players?
Two are enough to start: a pilot and an engineer.

What if everything is on fire?
Vital systems first: oxygen, shields, then engines.
