Star Citizen lore: humans and the United Empire of Earth (UEE)

Star Citizen’s humanity has spread across dozens of systems, united under one banner: the United Empire of Earth, the UEE. An ominous name for an empire… which has nonetheless become a democracy again.

From the UNE to the UEE

• 2380: Earth’s nations unite as the United Nations of Earth (UNE), after the discovery of jump points.
• 2523: they become the United Planets of Earth (UPE).
• 2546: after the first war against the Tevarin, Ivar Messer seizes power and turns the United Planets into the United Empire of Earth.

The Messer era, a 246-year dictatorship

The Messer dynasty ruled from 2546 to 2792: surveillance, propaganda, political executions, relentless militarization. It fell after the Massacre of Garron II came to light, when the regime wiped out a developing species to terraform its planet. On May 3, 2792, the Messer era ended.

The UEE today

• An elective constitutional monarchy since 2800: the Imperator is elected for a single ten-year term. Since January 1, 2951, that’s Laylani Addison.
• The Senate represents the systems; the Advocacy acts as the federal police; the Navy and the Marines defend the borders.
• Not everyone is a “citizen”: many residents are civilians. Citizenship grants the right to vote in Senate elections, and it has to be earned, notably through service.
• The capital is debated: Earth for some, Terra for others.
• The UEE is currently at war with the Vanduul, since the attack on Vega II in late 2945.
