Get your cold-weather suit out. microTech was meant to be a temperate world, but an Empire terraforming error made it far colder than planned. Blizzards and ice storms are common. Yet this is where microTech, the tech giant that makes the mobiGlas, set up its headquarters.

📜 Its history

The planet was discovered in 2851. In 2865, the Empire decided to sell it to reduce its debt. Magnus Tobin, microTech’s founder, bought it as the company’s headquarters. The cold? An advantage: it’s perfect for cooling server farms.

Today, microTech leases land to smaller companies, and happily buys up local start-ups. Researchers are even studying thawort, a local lichen with promising antiseptic properties.

🌙 Three moons, three muses

  • Calliope: the muse of eloquence.
  • Clio: the muse of history.
  • Euterpe: the muse of music.

🎮 In game

  • New Babbage, an enclosed domed city, is one of the game’s starting points. microTech’s flagship store is there.
  • Port Tressler, in orbit, offers shops, a cargo deck and a food court.
  • Pack an undersuit rated for the cold before heading out to explore the surface.
  • Local running gag: New Babbage’s Wally’s Bar and the jokes about its owner.
