Tyrol system: two stars on the brink of exploding, and Haven

Tyrol is a binary system in danger of going nova. The looming explosion has left it unclaimed and mostly uninhabited. Scientists long to study a star’s final stages there, but most of its people are criminals and those with nowhere else to go.

Tyrol IV (chthonian planet (former giant core))

A former gas giant stripped of its atmosphere, whose dense core is a source of gemstones.

Tyrol V (chthonian planet (former giant core))

A former ice giant melted down to bare rock. It is home to Haven, the largest settlement, built into a canyon wall: a refuge for those with nowhere left to go. Stepping into the sun without thermal shielding can kill.

A protoplanet so small some doubt it qualifies as one.
