Orbital map of the Ellis system

Thirteen planets and a wide habitable zone around an F-type star. Ellis is above all home to the Murray Cup, the UEE’s most famous race. Born as a way to kill time during terraforming, it became big business that keeps its three terraformed worlds going: Green, Kampos and Noble. Recently, the eleventh planet collided with its moon.

🪐 Its worlds, from the star outwards

Ellis I (protoplanet)

A scorched protoplanet of rock and bubbling magma, too close to the star for anyone to risk mining it.

Ellis II (smog planet)

One huge desert, carved into swirls and ridges by giant storms.

Ellis III · Green (ocean planet)

Green, an ocean world, is the top resort destination for racegoers, with its high-end mega-resorts. To protect the underwater reefs, ships land in designated zones.
👥 inhabited

Ellis IV · Kampos (super-Earth)

Kampos, named after the large sea creatures that once stalked its oceans, was the first world settled and remains the most populated.
👥 inhabited

Ellis V · Noble (rocky planet)

Noble, the system’s emerald jewel, covered in woodland: it is often compared to an untouched Earth. Its council makes its natural beauty a priority.
👥 inhabited

Its moons:

  • Ellis 5a: A moon with slightly pink regolith, a favourite of lunar photographers.
  • Ellis 5b: Tidally locked: pristine on the planet-facing side, pocked with craters on the star-facing side.

Ellis VI (rocky planet)

Just outside the habitable zone and uninhabited, it is used for human habitation studies.
👥 inhabited

Ellis VII (smog planet)

A corrosive, poisonous atmosphere rules out terraforming and even landing. It has rings.

Ellis VIII (dwarf planet)

The smallest planet in the system, with a micro-atmosphere and little else.

Ellis IX · Walleye (puffy planet)

Nicknamed Walleye by long-haul pilots: a giant whose storms are visible from space.

Ellis X · Bombora (gas giant)

Bombora, the second gas giant, owes its nickname to its ever-turbulent atmosphere.

Ellis XI (protoplanet)

Ellis XI recently collided with one of its moons: it should keep splintering and form a new asteroid belt.

Ellis XII · Judecca (ice planet)

Judecca, a ball of ice occasionally visited by ice-mining expeditions.

Ellis XIII · Pinecone (protoplanet)

Pinecone, a protoplanet so oddly shaped it has become the local mascot.

☄️ Belts, clusters and stations

  • Ellis Belt Alpha (asteroid belt): The UEE’s most famous belt, part of the Murray Cup course. The race has sought to acquire all rights to it: mining there is strictly forbidden.
  • Encole Station (space station): A science station built in 2931 with public grants and private donations to study human habitation on Ellis VI.
